I have a goal of traveling more this year than ever before, but that doesn’t always resonate with my schedule, as I work full time out of the home, blog part time in the home, and my son goes to public school. With Alabama neighboring my home state of Georgia, it was an easy getaway to add to my list. I’ve only been to Alabama once; but it truly doesn’t count as I was just going to the airport in Birmingham. I didn’t get to “see” Alabama. This time around, I did get to see and explore Alabama for a few days, so I’m checking it off my 50-US-States-to-visit-list.
When I started researching top destinations in Alabama, Gulf Shores immediately was first on the list that caught my eye. The beach is always a yes in my book. Well, maybe not so much when there’s a hurricane, but that’s another story.
Driving to Gulf Shore isn’t a terrible drive from Atlanta. We made in there right under 6 hours. We left Atlanta around 7 AM eastern time and made it to Gulf Shores around noon central time. “Gaining” an hour never hurts. Before exploring Gulf Shores, we stopped to get checked into our condo. The Beach Club by Spectrum is a paradise all of its own.
But before I inform you of the details of the resort, let me tell you about our amazing vacation rental we had! The condo was decorated to fit a beach lover’s’ dream; spacious, great for families, and to top it off, it had the most amazing view. We had a fully equipped kitchen, laundry, two bath and two bedrooms. The condo sleeps 6 as it also has a pullout couch. There were TVs in the bedrooms and living rooms, with the TV in the living room having Netflix already on it, plus cable (but who needs TV when you have the ocean).
As soon as I walked in, I immediately opened the screen door to the living room and the master bedroom. The sound of the ocean captivated the condo, and the breeze of that beautiful January day flowed effortlessly throughout. I knew at this point that I didn’t want to leave. I could have stayed on the property the entire time. We did step out to visit Fort Morgan for a few hours, and then decided we had to get back to the condo, as we really wanted to watch the sunset from the patio. Before heading back we decided to eat in that night, I mean with a kitchen right there, why not? We also grabbed food for the morning to cook as I knew I wanted as much time in the relaxing space as possible.
At Home Feel
With all the amenities of home, how could you not have an at-home feel? All you need to bring is food and you are good to go. They even provide dish soap and laundry soap. Now, I can be a bit of a cheap skate, so having the laundry detergent set it off for me. 😉 The couches and beds were amazingly comfortable, the entire condo was very clean, I would highly suggest this specific condo!
Private Beach Access
Besides listening to the ocean as it whispers in your ear from your beach front condo; you can also enjoy the Gulf of Mexico via beach access. With the weather reaching a typical 60 degrees, we had gorgeous weather that hit in the low to mid-70’s. With it still being too cold to get into the water, we went seashell hunting along the gorgeous beach. We could have stayed there all day long enjoying the sand between our toes and the quality time with each other. The beauty of it all is that is isn’t crowded this time of year and most of the people there are an older crowd, so if you’re going to relax, this is the time to go.
Full Service Resort
The Beach by Spectrum Resort is a full service resort. They have everything on-site. And I mean everything! We woke up very early to hit the gym and indoor pool. The gym is equipped with several cardio machines, free weights and weight machines. They even have earphones in case you forgot yours! While working on my beach bod, my son decided to play in their arcade. This room has several video games to choose from that are all free to play. This excited my son, as many kids who love video games. Post workout, we took a dip in the indoor pool. The pool was heated to a comfortable temperature, and you still had a great view of outside. There was also a pool outside of the club house, obviously with the cool January morning weather, we weren’t too keen on that idea.
Once we finished up in the pool, we headed into the locker room to relax in the steam room and sauna. This was amazing!! It has been a while since I had relaxed like that. It was definitely needed and I enjoyed every second of it. Another reason to visit during the winter months, we didn’t have to wait for any gym equipment, there were only a few of us in the pool and we had the steam room and sauna all to ourselves. Literally, as I sit here and write this I am feeling like I need to jump in the car and head back.
As we walked out of the club house we noticed some outdoor games across the lawn. A giant game of checkers, chess, and cornhole and volleyball were another perfect addition to some outdoor fun. They even have on-site grills available. In addition to those, the property has several tennis courts, basketball courts, and a playground. And although it wasn’t open while we were there, they also have a spa on site.
If you’re really not feeling like leaving the property, they have 3 restaurants and a creamery (although one of the restaurants was closed for the season). They also have a weekly schedule of events that range for working out to music, movies, kids activities and more! The schedule differs from week-to-week and it will also vary depending on the time of year. Of course there aren’t as many events going on at this time of the year versus the spring and summer, but it didn’t stop us from having a wonderful time.
Save Some Money
Visiting The Beach by Spectrum Resort during the winter months will save you some money (from looking at the booking calendar it looked like it could save you almost 50% vs traveling during the spring/summer). Now we all know I am an avid budget traveler, and I am always looking for the best deal, so this is where it would make or break our trip. Not that you can’t tell, but staying at The Beach during the coolest time of the year will MAKE our trip. With the amount of money you can save and the low crowd makes for one great winter getaway.
Even with a lot of attractions closed for the season in Gulf Shore, there is still plenty to see and you’re at the beach, so I personally spend a bulk of my time beach side. To add to saving money, keep in mind you have a fully equipped kitchen, so purchasing food to make yourself in the comfort of your condo can add value (however, there are some great restaurants in Gulf Shores (i.e The Hangout and The Oyster House)).
Easy Check-in & Check-out
The Beach Club by Spectrum Resort has made vacationing easier than ever. They currently enabled an app which allows you to check-in and out easy and effortlessly. Eliminating any hassle so that you can begin to enjoy your time sooner.
So let’s recap. A gorgeous vacation rental that sits along a gorgeous private beach, on the property of a full service resort, during a time of year that allows you to have cheaper rates and less crowds. How much better can it get? Let’s not forget you get an amazing view, the comforts of home and no matter what you’re doing, you’re making memories with your loved ones.
